Tony Tian-Yi Liang
Profile
Tony Tian-Yi Liang is completing a Monash Industry Experience Engineering placement with the Opportunity Tech Lab. The placement runs from 27 July to 23 October 2026 and includes 115 hours of supervised project work.
Project focus
Tony contributes to the Inclusive AI Consent project, which studies how AI-assisted tools can help make research consent information clearer and more accessible while maintaining accuracy, ethics, and human oversight.
His placement focuses on evidence-linked analysis and requirements. The work examines how manual and AI-assisted analysis can support the identification of candidate requirements and technology features without separating those ideas from the evidence on which they are based.
Current contribution
Tony is working alongside Khang Tieu on the first two de-identified interview transcripts. Current activities include:
- comparing manual coding with AI-assisted outputs;
- identifying candidate requirements and features;
- preserving links between each interpretation and its supporting evidence; and
- maintaining a reflection and method note about where AI assistance helps, where it creates limitations, and where human checking remains necessary.
Supervision
- Placement supervisor: Dr Wei Wang
- Project support: Khang Tieu
- Placement context: Monash Industry Experience Engineering program
The work follows the project’s ethics and data-access boundaries. Tony is not responsible for participant contact, recruitment, consent decisions, or independent participant-facing activities.
