ECA Research Training Grant 2026
👤 Award recipient
Wei Wang, Research Fellow, Opportunity Tech Lab, Monash University
💲 Funding details
- Monash Business School ECA Research Training Grant Scheme
- AU$1,918
- Awarded 31 August 2026 for online training undertaken from September to December 2026
🎓 Advanced research training programme
This individual award supports a staged programme of advanced AI research training across four complementary areas:
- multimodal-agent development through the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute;
- production AI-agent engineering through the Udacity AI Engineering with Claude Nanodegree;
- advanced Google Cloud, Gemini and Vertex AI laboratories; and
- production deployment and evaluation of retrieval-augmented generation systems through NVIDIA DLI.
The programme focuses on practical engineering, rigorous evaluation, secure deployment, responsible scaling, and human oversight rather than introductory AI use.
🔬 Research capability and impact
The training will strengthen my ability to assess whether an AI-enabled research concept can be built, grounded in appropriate data, evaluated rigorously, deployed securely, and scaled responsibly. This capability supports the Opportunity Tech Lab’s research on inclusive digital and immersive technologies for participation, learning, and employment, while strengthening the technical feasibility arguments used in future grant applications.
📋 Planned outputs
- A small, human-centred and privacy-conscious multimodal demonstrator for an Opportunity Tech Lab accessibility or participation challenge.
- A reusable feasibility checklist covering architecture, data, privacy, accessibility, evaluation, deployment, maintenance, and scaling.
- A short team briefing that shares the technical learning across the Opportunity Tech Lab.
